YSI Awarded Grant for Biomass Boiler System
Boiler System to receive environmentally friendly upgrade
Yakima, WA, April 15, 2015: Yakima Specialties has been named as a recipient of the 2015 Department of Agriculture Wood Innovations Funding Opportunity (WIFO) grant. This project will take approximately 18-24 months to complete. The grant will aid Yakima Specialties in the design and engineering phase of the construction of its new Biomass Boiler System. This state of the art system is on the cutting edge of technology that converts wood waste into renewable energy, which will provide the steam and heating needs to Yakima Specialties’ onsite commercial laundry and wood shop. The wood fuel will come from chips and sawdust generated from wood shop operations, along with forest residuals coming from much needed thinning operation in the east Cascades. This will aid the US Forest Service in removing biomass waste from the forests, which would otherwise be burned in slash piles, by turning it into clean renewable energy.
